1. Context

Our client is a mining company operating in Cameroon, currently in its development phase. As it approaches production, the company is strengthening its financial, operational and internal control systems and is looking for a rigorous, experienced Accountant to reinforce its Finance Department.

2. Position Summary

The Accountant ensures the reliable, complete and traceable recording of the company's accounting transactions. He/she contributes to the quality of financial information, compliance with legal, tax and social security obligations, and the preparation of closings and financial statements. Working closely with the Senior Accountant and the Chief Accountant, he/she secures transactions related to suppliers, imports, fixed assets, inventory and project expenditure, and helps implement robust accounting processes and stronger internal controls.

3. Key Accountabilities

  1. General ledger: record, check and file daily accounting entries, including miscellaneous entries, provisions, reversals and adjustments.
  2. Recurring costs and subscriptions: set up and monitor subscription records, post recurring expenses and file supporting documents rigorously.
  3. Accounts payable and overheads: check, code and post local and foreign invoices based on supporting evidence (purchase orders, delivery notes, acceptance reports, progress statements, approvals).
  4. Supplier compliance (KYC): verify the completeness of local suppliers' tax files and the legal existence and bank details of foreign suppliers.
  5. Third-party account reconciliation: perform monthly matching, analyze debit or aged balances, document discrepancies and prepare periodic reconciliations.
  6. Tax and social charges: prepare data for tax and social security filings, track deadlines and help control payments and adjustments.
  7. Closings and financial statements: take part in monthly and year-end closings, prepare supporting files and assist the Chief Accountant with the financial statements.
  8. Import files: build and maintain physical and digital import files, from initial declaration through to clearance.
  9. Import and inventory valuation: calculate cost prices, include landed costs and record stock receipts and project equipment.
  10. Banking and payment control: prepare supplier advance files, follow up foreign-currency transactions and help secure payments.
  11. Internal control and audit support: apply financial procedures, ensure proper archiving, report anomalies and respond, under supervision, to internal, external, tax or customs audit requests.

4. Key Challenges

  • Ensure reliable accounting data as purchasing, import and field activity volumes grow rapidly.
  • Meet demanding closing, tax, social security, banking and reporting deadlines.

  • Coordinate many internal and external stakeholders to obtain supporting documents on time.
  • Help structure accounting frameworks for fixed assets, inventory and production costs.

  • Impeccable integrity and confidentiality.
  • Analytical mind and persistence in resolving discrepancies.
  • Organization, autonomy and ability to prioritize multiple deadlines.
  • Clear communication, team spirit and adaptability in a multicultural, multi-site environment.

6. Working Environment

  • Based at the company's headquarters in Douala, within the Finance Department, in a structured and collaborative environment.
  • Occasional travel to project sites or to external partners.
